Q: I just found out that I’m a victim of identity theft. What does a fraud specialist do that I can’t do myself?
A: We have the knowledge and the relationships to make the resolution process go smoothly. Based on the type of fraud, we know right off the bat what information you’ll need to provide to your financial institution. We know immediately how to put you on the right track.
The average consumer isn’t aware of all the steps required to completely clear fraud from an account. We make sure the fraud is completely resolved because we know every step institutions are supposed to take to restore your good name.
When consumers’ fraud claims are denied, we advocate for them. We know which institutions make mistakes and bad decisions. We substantiate your fraud claims with additional proof—paperwork such as affidavits and police reports.
Some of the specialized skills a fraud specialist offers include:
• Partnerships with credit reporting agencies
• Tools to access information from financial institutions
• Experience trouble-shooting different kinds of fraud, including credit card, wire and employment fraud
We’re also fast. When someone comes to us with a claim, we can clear it up quickly and painlessly—sometimes in a few hours. I’m confident that our staff works about ten times faster than the average consumer, because that’s our full-time job. It can take a victim a couple of weeks or months to do the same amount of work.
