It should come as no surprise to business owners large and small that those in different industries face a wide range of unique problems when it comes to securing sensitive data, and now new data shows just how true this is.
Data security is a big issue for companies in all fields, but particularly those in the financial and insurance industries, healthcare, retail and the accommodations and food services realms, according to a report from
Verizon. For instance, those companies that protect not only personal data, but those related to consumers' finances as well, may face challenges that those whose job is to safeguard medical information do not, and vice versa.
"Understanding what happens when a
data breach occurs is critical to proactive prevention," said Wade Baker, Verizon managing principal for its RISK team. "Through our more targeted analysis, we are hoping to provide answers to businesses around the globe that want to protect not only their data but their reputation."
Ondrej Krehel, chief information security officer for
IDentity Theft 911, has a blog about how
data breaches can affect consumers and businesses in a number of industries, and what can be done to prevent them.
